The rise of the internet and online poker games has created a massive increase in the number of poker players across the globe. Online poker has removed the requirement to visit a bricks and mortar casino to play which can be intimidating to many players.
Different poker sites may either allow you to view other players in alive casino or be played blind whereby you cannot see others and so cannot try to tell if they are bluffing or not. It is a good idea to have a look through our different recommendations to select the mode of play that you will enjoy most.
For anybody unfamiliar with poker, it belongs to a whole family of card games in which players place bets in relation to the best hand. The best hand and the way that players rank depends on the exact version of the game you are playing so it is always worth reviewing the rules of the game before you begin to play.
Modern poker is frequently played with a full 52 card deck although earlier versions were traditionally played with 20 cards. Poker can have one or more rounds of betting in each game.
There are many online versions of poker but most start with a single player making a blind (forced) bet. Other players then take turns to place their bets based on how strong they believe their hand is compared to that of the other players hands in the game. Poker bets take place in a clockwise direction around the virtual table. During the betting process, each player must either call (match) the previous high bet, or fold and lose their bet placed bet for that round. A player who matches the previous players bet may also decide to raise the stakes, increasing their bet. The cycle continues around the table until all players have either called the previous bet or folded. Folded players lose that round. After the final round of betting, remaining hands are revealed and the player with the winning hand takes the pot.
Some versions of poker you may find online are:
- Texas Holdem
- Mixed games
Poker can be a strategic game and you have to be careful not to give yourself away if it is live. But, it can be immersive and exciting if you’re up for the challenge!
